Meet the founder

So, you’re probably wondering what drove me to become so passionate about living alcohol-free that I’d want to encourage others to do the same. It’s only right that I give you a little recap.

My name’s Jessica. I’m 30 years old, originally from Bristol, and I’ve lived in London for over eight years. As is the case for most of us in the Western world, alcohol is a huge part of our culture and the way we socialise, so I grew up being a big social drinker from my mid-teens.

I came to realise pretty quickly that I didn’t quite have the same relationship with alcohol as others seemed to. Some people were able to have a couple of drinks and call it a night, but I wasn’t really able to do that. Alcohol felt like it had a level of control over me that I couldn’t conquer. And when you can’t conquer something, the easiest thing is often to surrender, which is exactly what I did over two years ago.

Since removing alcohol completely, I’ve grown in more ways than I can begin to explain. Not all growth is external - the most impactful growth is internal. My life feels like it’s done a complete 360, and I feel content in who I am as a person now, as well as excited about the life I’m building. Since speaking so publicly about my alcohol-free journey, I have written a book, been a guest on various podcasts and have been invited as a speaker at Company wide events. I’m also a Community Champion for a charity called Alcohol Change UK, and support them with various projects and events to spread awareness.

For those of you reading this who are also frequent social drinkers, you can’t help but admit that drinking becomes part of your identity. If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t spend so much of your time doing it. The sad reality is that there comes a point where it doesn’t leave much room to enjoy much else…We become consumed by it. Every event, every activity, every meet-up with friends often revolves around alcohol.

I’m here to show you that you can live differently, and that alcohol doesn’t have to play such a central role in your life - even if it does for your friends and loved ones. You are your own person, and if you don’t have the support you need to make this lifestyle change, I’m here to support you through my shared content. We’re in this together.

And just for the record, you won’t just live differently. You’ll live more happily, more contentedly, and more fulfilled. Personally, that feels like a very worthy sacrifice for removing one thing that, if we’re honest, adds zero value to your life.

For a while, I’ve been thinking about how I can give back on a bigger scale. How can I make a real impact on the lives of others? To answer that, I needed to go back to what I lacked in my first couple of months of going alcohol-free. What I needed most was a community, but not just any - one that really understood where I was at.

It’s easy to find support groups; there are plenty of them. But a support group where you can actually connect with people on your vibe? That’s much harder to come across. So, I created SoberMinds for those like me, who sat very much in the middle lane of drinking. People who aren’t on the severe side of drinking, but are aware that it doesn’t benefit their life, and are ready to explore a life without it — and would like to find their people. SoberMinds is all about community, and a modern approach to sobriety.

As we’re just starting out, you can expect useful resources such as blogs and weekly newsletters. I plan to build this out as the community grows, but I’ll need your help to get there. After all, that’s the whole point of a community, right? Together, we can turn this into something great. More impactful and, most of all… more fun for everyone.

So, what is SoberMinds?

We're not here to follow trends - we're here to build a meaningful, useful and impactful community. A blend of raw, honest, and genuine tips and topics, with more to come as we grow.
